The LNCS Journal Transactions on Aspect-Oriented Software Development is devoted to all facets of aspect-oriented software development (AOSD) techniques in the context of all phases of the software life cycle, from requirements and design to implementation, maintenance and evolution. The papers, which focus on mapping of early aspects across the software lifecycle, and aspects and software evolution, have passed through a careful peer reviewing process.

This book contains the final reports of 19 workshops held during the 20th European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, ECOOP 2006, held in Nantes, France in July 2006. The 19 reports cover the entire range of object technology and related topics, presenting a coherent and highly representative snapshot of the major trends in the field.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Early Aspects: Current Challenges and Future Directions, held in March 2007 in Vancouver, Canada, co-located with AOSD 2007, the 6th International Conference on Aspect-Oriented Software Development. The papers are organized in topical sections on aspect-oriented requirements, aspect requirements to design, aspect-oriented architecture design, and aspect-oriented domain engineering.

It is more than half a century since the publication of R. A. Bagnold’s classic book The physics of blown sand and desert dunes, and it is a tribute to the quality of Bagnold’s work that many of the fundamental principles which he developed - main valid today. His book continues to be essential reading for any serious s- dent of aeolian processes. However, the past two decades have seen an explosion in the scale of research dealing with aeolian transport processes, sediments, and landforms. Some of this work has been summarized in review papers and edited conference proceedings, but this book provides the rst attempt to review the whole eld of aeolian sand research. Inevitably, it has not been possible to cover all - pects in equal depth, and the balance of included material naturally re ects the - thors’ own interests to a signi cant degree. However, our aim has been to provide as broad a perspective as possible, and to provide an entry point to an extensive mul- disciplinary scienti c literature, some of which has not been given the attention it deserves in earlier textbooks and review papers. Many examples are drawn from existing published work, but the book also makes extensive use of our own research in the Middle East, Australia, Europe, and North America. The book has been written principally for use by advanced undergraduates, po- graduates, and more senior research workers in geomorphology and sedimentology.

Recently, a set of new software development techniques – termed Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) – has become available that aims to support modularisation of systemic properties (also referred to as crosscutting-concerns) and their subsequent composition with other parts of the system. Rashid focuses on the use of Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) techniques to modularise otherwise broadly scoped features in database systems like the transaction or the versioning model to improve their customisability, extensibility, and maintainability. His aim is to show how the use of AOP can transform the way we develop, use and maintain database systems. He also discusses how database systems can support AOP by providing means for storage and retrieval of aspects. Aspect-Oriented Databases Systems shows the possible synergy between AOSD and database systems and is of particular interest for researchers, graduate students and software developers in database systems and applications.
