Synopsis COLONY & FRONTIER IN MEDIEVAL IRELAND by : T. B. Barry

These essays explore aspects of the English colony in medieval Ireland and its relations with the Gaelic host society. They deal both with the foundation and expansion of the English lordship in the twelfth and early thirteenth centuries, and with the problems sand adjustments that accompaneid its contraction in the later middle ages. Attention is paid both to the government and society of the colony itself, and to the interactions between settler and native.

Synopsis Clergy of Derry and Raphoe by : Ulster Historical Foundation

The United Dioceses of Derry and Raphoe are almost coterminous with the modern counties of Derry and Donegal; they were united in 1834 and since then have been administered by one Bishop. This volume is the third in the series of modern revisions of Canon J.B. Leslie's pioneering work on clergy succession lists for the dioceses of the Church of Ireland. Canon Leslie's list for Derry was publised in 1937 and for Raphoe in 1940; the present book brings the lists as far as 1999 and incorporates much information which has come to light since the earlier lists were published. Also included are short parish histories with photographs of the churches. Facsimle reproductions of Canon Leslie's earlier volumes are included thus providing the reader with a book of reference on the clergy of the United Dioceses reaching back to earlier times. Generations to come will be indebted to Canons Frederick W. Fawcett and David W.T. Crooks, both active clergymen in the Diocese for providing an indispensable book of reference.

Synopsis The Clergy of the Church of Ireland, 1000-2000 by : Toby Christopher Barnard

This collaborative volume considers the clergy of the Church of Ireland before and after the 16th-century reformation and before and after disestablishment in 1869. It analyzes many of the challenges and crises faced by the clergy and how they responded, as well as examining their routine pastoral activities. Less familiar contributions - to architecture, scholarship, education and overseas missions - are treated. Also, several memorable individuals like Thomas Dames Gregg and Archbishop Magee receive close attention. Intended as a companion to Gillespie & Neely (eds), The laity and the Church of Ireland, 1000- 2000 (2002), the book is the first sustained attempt to do justice to the multifarious roles of the Church of Ireland clergy throughout a millennium. Contributors: Adrian Empey, Colm Lennon, Ciaran Diamond, Raymond Gillespie, Toby Barnard, Marie-Louise Legg, William Roulston, William Neely, Alan Megahey, Richard Clarke, John Crawford, DaithÃ?Â?Ã?Â- Ã?Â?Ã?Â? CorrÃ?Â?Ã?¡in, Kenneth Milne, William Marshall.
