This is the newly updated SECOND EDITION! This version has been fully re-checked for accuracy and re-formatted to make it even more user-friendly, following feedback after a full year of classroom use by thousands of teachers across the world. Spanish Sentence Builders is a workbook aimed at beginner to pre-intermediate students co-authored by two modern languages educators with over 40 years of extensive classroom experience between the two, both in the UK and internationally. This 'no-frills' book contains 19 units of work on very popular themes, jam-packed with graded vocabulary-building, reading, translation, retrieval practice and writing activities. Key vocabulary, lexical patterns and structures are recycled and interleaved throughout. Each unit includes: 1) A sentence builder modelling the target constructions; 2) A set of vocabulary building activities; 3) A set of narrow reading texts exploited through a range of tasks focusing on both the meaning and structural levels of the text; 4) A set of retrieval-practice translation tasks; 5) A set of writing tasks targeting essential micro-skills such as spelling, lexical retrieval, syntax, editing and communication of meaning. Based on the Extensive Processing Instruction (E.P.I.) principle that learners learn best from comprehensible and highly patterned input flooded with the target linguistic features, the authors have carefully designed each and every text and activity to enable the student to process and produce each item many times over. This occurs throughout each unit of work as well as in smaller grammar, vocabulary and question-skills micro-units located at regular intervals in the book, which aim at reinforcing the understanding and retention of the target grammar, vocabulary and question patterns.

The ground-breaking report Teaching About the Holocaust in English Secondary Schools: An empirical study of national trends, perspectives and practice explores when, where, how and why the Holocaust is taught in state-maintained secondary schools in England. The challenges and issues identified have been used to design and develop the world's first research-informed programme of teacher professional development in Holocaust education. The landmark national research that underpins this report employed a two-phase mixed methodology. This comprised an online survey which was completed by more than 2,000 respondents and follow-up interviews with 68 teachers in 24 different schools throughout England. The report is the largest endeavour of its kind in the United Kingdom in both scope and scale. The authors hope it will be of considerable value to all those concerned with the advancement and understanding of Holocaust education both in the UK and internationally.

And who are all the sad people in striped pyjamas on the other side of the fence? A boy in striped pyjamas. But why can't they ever play together? ‘A small wonder of a book’ Guardian BACKSTORY: Read an interview with the author JOHN BOYNE and learn all about the Second World War in Germany.

Learn to program fast in 155 challenges, 54 examples and 85 pages This book is a 'gamified' approach to Python, aimed at supporting GCSE and KS3 students, with complete coverage of the GCSE programming requirements. There's no substitute for practice when it comes to learning a new skill! Python syntax is simple to learn, but becoming an expert in writing programs to solve different kinds of problems takes a bit longer. That's why this book has a short explanation of each new statement or technique, followed by one or more examples and then loads of practice challenges. Some of the challenges will take you only a minute or two, using the Python Interactive window to try out new statements and get immediate results. As you get further into the book, you will be challenged to write programs to perform different kinds of tasks - for example to find the results of a calculation, write a program for a simplified cash machine, sort a list of items into alphabetical order, or to record data in a text file to be read, formatted, and printed. The programming solutions to some challenges have been helpfully simplified for an inexperienced programmer to modify rather than to write from scratch. This builds your confidence in problem-solving. That's why 35 challenges consist of partially written programs for you to complete.
