Synopsis On Angels' Wings by : J. Farland Bottoms, PhD

In a culture that struggles with dealing with grief, Farland has opened a door that allows others to see and feel what part of that path looks like. I can’t help but believe that his readers will benefit by his sharing. Ted Lunde Options Unlimited “This book will give encouragement and guidance to all those experiencing grief, but especially to men and fathers. Dr. Bottoms’ willingness to make himself vulnerable and share his struggles serves as a tremendous tool for the grieving reader as they may be learning to identify and express the depths of their feelings. He gives an excellent description of the evasive nature of depression and the various fronts one may use to hide it. Fortunately, he does not stop there, but gives ‘permission’ for the grieving person to seek the counsel of their families or that of professionals. The text does not gloss over or euphemize the extreme pain of losing a child, but does offer hope by defining healing as a process that requires faith in God and patience while He works. This book will give understanding to those grieving from someone involved in the process himself” Kelley L. Rumbyrt, MD, Psychiatrist “On Angels’ Wings will give those grieving solace through shared experience and the knowledge that others have walked along the same dark shadows, experience the same emotions and have come out the other side wounded yet still standing. On Angels’ Wings is a frank, stark and very personal journey of one man struggling to deal with the terrible loss of his son. It is a rare glimpse of a man struggling with the ‘stoic, provider model’ he must break free from to be completely human and to experience the grief most hold inside in a quiet rage. Through one’s ability to deal with his humanness and weakness, others, particularly men, will see a window to healing. We are not alone, On Angels’ Wings will provide comfort to those grieving a loss by allowing for a glimpse into the head and heart of another dealing with the worst of all parent’s nightmares. To simply sec that others deal with the same feelings of quilt, anger, rage, and sorrow will help in the healing after the loss.” Justin Matott Author of My Garden Visits, A Harvest of Reflections and children’s books.

Book Extract : That night, around 2:30 a.m., we were abruptly awakened by blaring sirens and announcements on the hotel’s PA system, urging immediate evacuation. “This is an evacuation warning.” “This is not a drill.” “Please evacuate the hotel immediately.” “We made our way through the corridor, down the fire escape, and into the open car parking space facing Bath Road. I could see hundreds of people around me, who had also just evacuated the hotel, some running out in their nightgowns and some naked, as the splitting sound of the loud horn pulsated in my ears.” "On that damp, cold night in London, we all stood helpless in the middle of the night in the left and right car parking areas. After a brief period, we saw the bomb squads and London Police, come rushing in with the fire engines blaring.” “Few of us travelled to Canada and attended the trial. We were seated in an area barely 15 feet away from where Malik and Bagri sat during the trial, and for days, we sat there watching the killers of our families.” “I will never forget the expressions on the faces of those two criminals, smirking, knowing that they were responsible for the murder of my family and all 331 innocent souls on board that ill-fated Air India Flight 182. Throughout the trial, they sat with smirks on their faces, seemingly triumphant, while looking at the crowd and the families of the victims.” “My family just died again,” “They killed 331 people once more,” and “This was the gravest injustice inflicted upon the victims of the Air India bombing!” As CBC News reported, But Sanjay Lazar had no trouble summing up how they felt in one, biting sentence.” “Today, once again, 20 years on,” he said, “we have lost our families all over again—this time to the Canadian justice system." Reviews : "It shines a light on how justice was obstructed in the Kanishka Air India Bombing Case, the worst act of aviation terrorism globally, before 9/11. Years of hard work have gone into the writing of this book. A must-read book- BARKHA DUTT" "A moving read about courage and determination in the aftermath of the tragedy of the Kanishka bombing - VIR SANGHVI". "Now, at last, Sanjay is taking the time to lay out the whole story. He's "here as of right." He knows the law, he knows aviation, and he certainly knows about bereavement. And this time. He's not rushing from the airport at the very last minute.- TERRY MILEWSKI"

Synopsis Angels in Islam by : Stephen Burge

Angels are a basic tenet of belief in Islam, appearing in various types and genres of text, from eschatology to law and theology to devotional material. This book presents the first comprehensive study of angels in Islam, through an analysis of a collection of traditions (hadīth) compiled by the 15th century polymath Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūtī (d. 911/1505). With a focus on the principal angels in Islam, the author provides an analysis and critical translation of hadith included in al-Suyuti’s al-Haba’ik fi akhbar al-mala’ik (‘The Arrangement of the Traditions about Angels’) – many of which are translated into English for the first time. The book discusses the issues that the hadīth raise, exploring why angels are named in particular ways; how angels are described and portrayed in the hadīth; the ways in which angels interact with humans; and the theological controversies which feature angels. From this it is possible to place al-Suyūtī’s collection in its religious and historical milieu, building on the study of angels in Judaism and Christianity to explore aspects of comparative religious beliefs about angels as well as relating Muslim beliefs about angels to wider debates in Islamic Studies. Broadening the study of Islamic angelology and providing a significant amount of newly translated primary source material, this book will be of great interest to scholars of Islam, divinity, and comparative religion.
