Synopsis Death and Croissants by : Ian Moore
"Laugh-out-loud caper." —Shelf Awareness, Starred Review "A fast-paced, witty story for those who enjoy dry British humor." —Library Journal Meet Richard Ainsworth: an almost divorced part time B&B owner, part time film historian, full time self-deprecator. Hoping to continue running his B&B in the quiet Val de Follet, he has no idea of its hidden intrigue, from the mafia to swingers, to the peddling of (il)legal grape seeds. His quiet has flown the coop on a fateful afternoon with a bloody handprint, a missing guest, and one dead Ava Gardner (beloved hen). Death and Croissants is an unputdownable, hilarious mystery perfect for fans of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club. What readers are saying: "Richard Osman meets Sherlock Holmes rampaging through the charming Loire Valley in this raucously funny book. I loved it." "A light, very funny mystery with appealing characters in a wonderful French countryside." "Oh wow, this was funny. This one just knocks it out of the park." "A story full of interesting and diverse characters told with lots of humor." "The author gives you everything you want in a humorous, witty mystery that chases you through all the twists and turns with murder, mafia, and mayhem."

Synopsis The Song of Clouds by : Samantha Wood
“From a distance it looked like the carcass of a dolphin from one of the pods that lived in the bay. But dolphins didn’t wear hats. Or expensive leather shoes...” Late one night, when her husband Paul is asleep, Meg Patterson escapes her violent marriage. Driving across the Nullarbor with her twelve-year-old son Josh, Meg hopes this is their chance at a new beginning. But will they ever be safe from Paul? Paul, a trader at the Perth Stock Exchange, is being investigated for insider trading. Meg’s not only taken his son; she’s also taken his car and something very valuable inside it. Something Paul needs to get back before everything comes crashing down. David Harper, newly unemployed and living far from his family, is devastated when his wife calls from Singapore to tell him that her contract has been extended and she and their son Sebastian will be away for another twelve months. But when Meg and Josh move in next door, and Sebastian visits for the school holidays, things start looking up for David. Then a stranger arrives in town asking about Meg and her son. David knows it’s Paul. Somehow he has to protect Meg and Josh – and then the unthinkable happens … The Song of Clouds is a story about the healing forces of nature, about letting go of the past and embracing new beginnings and, ultimately, the power of love.

Synopsis Pen, Pencil, and Poison by : Oscar Wilde
‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is one of Wilde’s most intriguing essays. Part biography, part social commentary, and part philosophical debate, he writes the biography of an art critic, who was also convicted of murder. However, in true Wildean style, there’s more to the essay than meets the eye. While documenting the life and crimes of Thomas Griffiths Wainwright, Wilde explores the ideas of dual identity, sin in the formation of the personality, and the relationship between crime and culture. ‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is a fascinating insight into some of the conventions of the time. Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) was an Irish novelist, poet, playwright, and wit. He was an advocate of the Aesthetic movement, which extolled the virtues of art for the sake of art. During his career, Wilde wrote nine plays, including ‘The Importance of Being Earnest,’ ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan,’ and ‘A Woman of No Importance,’ many of which are still performed today. His only novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ was adapted for the silver screen, in the film, ‘Dorian Gray,’ starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. In addition, Wilde wrote 43 poems, and seven essays. His life was the subject of a film, starring Stephen Fry.
