Synopsis A Bridge in Time by : Elisabeth McNeill
Change is coming, but are the people of Camptounfoot ready for it? For generations, the oldest village in Scotland has remained little changed but now it is 1853 and the railway is coming to Camptounfoot. Shy and beautiful Emma Jane Wylie is determined to fight for the realisation of her father’s dream – the construction of the railway bridge that will carry the new track southwards. Her father’s demise puts Emma in charge. But during the two years of its construction, the project is beset by drama and tragedy: cholera rages, the men down tools, murder and conspiracy are in the air – and then a landslide threatens to destroy all their endeavours. Inspired by her father’s vision, and with a strength of mind and resolve at odds with her Victorian upbringing, Emma Jane takes on the world – and is determined to win. The first book in the A Bridge In Time series, this dramatic and riveting saga of survival is perfect for fans of Anna Jacobs and Tessa Barclay.

Synopsis A Bridge to Elne by : L. E. Indianer
A BRIDGE TO ELNE is based on a true story of a courageous family who endured the German occupation of France during WWII. Marcel Pointer is a successful dentist in Marseille until Nazi brutality leads him to join the Maquis, the militant branch of the French R sistance. He conducts several successful raids against the Vichy and the Germans, and is arrested by the Gestapo. After beating and interrogating him without obtaining evidence of his guilt, they finally release him. Aware of the increased danger, he decides to move his wife Angelina and their four children to Elne, a small village at the foot of the Pyrenees near the Mediterranean Sea. He returns to fight, leaving them with Paul and Elizabeth Courty, Angelina's parents, and her sister Paulette. In November 1942, the Germans move their troops into the southern, unoccupied zone of France. Captain Johann Weller is sent to Elne with his German engineering battalion to build fortifications along the Mediterranean coast. Each family in the village is ordered to house a German officer. Johann is assigned to the Courty home. At first there is much tension, but with time Johann earns a degree of respect from the Courty's and Pontier's. He is not the evil monster they had expected. That doesn't alter the fact that by participating in the occupation, he is helping to further the Nazi cause with all its evil. Paulette comes to know him well, and over time they develop a close relationship. Only the taboos created by the war and occupation keep her from responding to his overtures. Paulette works for the mayor of Elne, where the Germans now make their headquarters. Speaking fluent German, she makes good use of her office next to the commandant's to access their conversations and plans, and is able to help the R sistance by funneling this information to Marcel. This is complicated by Johann's interest in her, and she is unsure how much he can be trusted. When the Germ

Synopsis Poison on Tap by : Bridge Magazine
The most valuable and illuminating account yet of the Flint water crisis. It took more than a year for the truth to finally, painfully emerge - that Flint, Mich., residents had been drinking lead-poisoned water despite months of complaints about foul smells, discoloration and, worse, ill children. Based on the award-winning journalism of Bridge Magazine, "Poison on Tap" provides a riveting, authoritative, in-depth account of the government blunders, mendacity and arrogance that produced the water crisis in Flint: How state-appointed emergency managers put cost-cutting ahead of public safety. How state experts misinterpreted basic safeguards, while federal regulators dithered for months about warning the public. How a governor missed the many red flags. And how a series of heroes refused to accept the pat dismissals of government agencies, needling and fighting until their voices were heard. "Poison on Tap" is a compelling case study in how government at all levels can go very wrong - and yet shows the power of the human spirit to overcome. "Sometimes truth is stranger and scarier than fiction-such is the case with the Flint Water Crisis. Bridge Magazine staff painstakingly document one of the most significant cases of environmental injustice in U.S. history." -Marc Edwards, Virginia Tech professor whose work helped prove that the regulators were wrong"
